Welcome to The Lava's End where the lava's journey from the center of the earth has created the Hawaiian Islands and is presently active at the Kilauea crater which feeds the east shield volcanco and exits at the Pu'u O'o vent. From there it follows its course down the slope via lava tubes and surface flows creating more island in its passing. Reaching the ocean's edge it encounters "The Lava's End" where it can no longer flow but rests in the patient hand of Nature to slowly work its way back to the earth's core. In my opinion I see nature and the Earth recycling itself at its best where time is of no consequence.
About The Lava's End
These photographs are all taken by Jose D. Martinez from his skiff, The Vamonos, which he launches out of Pohoiki Bay on the Puna Coast. All lava photographs are of the Kilauea volcano's lava ocean entry. New photographs will be added in the future as Jose visits and photographs the lava every opportunity that the ocean conditions allow.
